Samsung Corby, Samsung today announced the U.S. debut of the i5700 Galaxy Spica, an Android-powered smartphone that had its European release in November of 2009.
Samsung is marketing the device as a multimedia phone with quick access to social networks, but in comparison to the latest Android devices on the U.S. market, like the Droid and Nexus One, the Galaxy appears outdated.
The Galaxy Spica features an 800MHz processor, a large 3.2-inch touch screen with a relatively low 480 x 320 HVGA resolution, and measures 115mm x 57mm x 13.2mm (4.5in x 2.2in x .5in) in size. It's equipped with a 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus, WiFi, 180MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage. The phone also comes with a 1500 mAh battery, and support for UMTS 900/2100MHz bands as well as EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHz bands.
Samsung has not yet announced its U.S. pricing.
